Bengaluru Railway Stations
KSR (SBC) · Yeshwantpur (YPR) · SMVT Baiyappanahalli
Bengaluru has several major railway stations — and your train may not leave from the obvious one. KSR Bengaluru City (Majestic) is the main station, but many long-distance trains start from Yeshwantpur or the newer SMVT terminal. Check your ticket's boarding station carefully.
🚆 Which station?
Which station do I go to?
KSR Bengaluru City Junction (code SBC) at Majestic is the main one. Yeshwantpur Junction (YPR) handles many Pune/Hyderabad and long-distance trains. SMVT (Sir M. Visvesvaraya Terminal, Baiyappanahalli) is the modern third terminal for many newer long-distance services. Cantonment (BNC) and KR Puram are also stops. ALWAYS check the boarding station printed on your ticket — they're far apart.
🧭 How to reach (metro)
Metro links to the stations?
KSR (SBC): walk across from Majestic metro (Purple/Green interchange). Yeshwantpur (YPR): Yeshwanthpur metro on the Green Line — a ~3-minute skywalk from Platform 6. SMVT: Baiyappanahalli metro (Purple Line) is nearby.
🧳 Facilities & porters
Cloakroom, porters, waiting rooms?
Major stations have cloakrooms / left-luggage, luggage trolleys, licensed porters (coolies), ATMs, free Wi-Fi, retiring rooms and a medical centre. Porter charges are regulated — agree the amount before handing over bags.
🎫 Booking & tips
How do I book and check trains?
Book reserved tickets on IRCTC (irctc.co.in or the app); check PNR status there. For unreserved/suburban journeys use the UTS app. Aggregators also resell IRCTC tickets.
Common mistake to avoid?
Don't assume every 'Bangalore' train leaves from KSR/Majestic — a lot depart from Yeshwantpur or SMVT, which can be 30–60 minutes away in traffic. Confirm the station and leave a buffer.
