Register for GST in Karnataka
Register your business for GST online on the national portal — needed once turnover crosses the threshold (₹40 lakh goods / ₹20 lakh services), or voluntarily. Karnataka jurisdiction is handled by the Commercial Taxes Dept.
Steps
- 1
Start on the GST portal
Go to gst.gov.in → Services → Registration → New Registration.
- 2
Part A — get a TRN
Enter PAN, mobile and email; verify with OTPs to receive a Temporary Reference Number (TRN).
- 3
Part B — business details
Log in with the TRN and fill business details, promoters, principal place of business, goods/services (HSN/SAC) and bank details.
- 4
Upload documents & authenticate
Attach the documents and complete Aadhaar authentication for faster, often physical-verification-free processing.
- 5
Submit & track via ARN
Submit with DSC/EVC; you get an Application Reference Number (ARN) to track status.
- 6
Receive your GSTIN
On approval, the 15-digit GSTIN and registration certificate (Form REG-06) are issued — download from the portal.
💡 Good to know
- Threshold differs: ~₹40L for goods, ~₹20L for services (verify current limits & exemptions).
- Complete Aadhaar authentication to usually avoid physical verification.
- File returns on time once registered — non-filing leads to penalties and GSTIN suspension.
