Steps

  1. 1

    Start on the GST portal

Go to gst.gov.in → Services → Registration → New Registration.

  2. 2

    Part A — get a TRN

Enter PAN, mobile and email; verify with OTPs to receive a Temporary Reference Number (TRN).

  3. 3

    Part B — business details

Log in with the TRN and fill business details, promoters, principal place of business, goods/services (HSN/SAC) and bank details.

  4. 4

    Upload documents & authenticate

Attach the documents and complete Aadhaar authentication for faster, often physical-verification-free processing.

  5. 5

    Submit & track via ARN

Submit with DSC/EVC; you get an Application Reference Number (ARN) to track status.

  6. 6

    Receive your GSTIN

On approval, the 15-digit GSTIN and registration certificate (Form REG-06) are issued — download from the portal.

💡 Good to know

  • Threshold differs: ~₹40L for goods, ~₹20L for services (verify current limits & exemptions).
  • Complete Aadhaar authentication to usually avoid physical verification.
  • File returns on time once registered — non-filing leads to penalties and GSTIN suspension.
