Shop & Establishment registration (e-Karmika)

Any shop or commercial establishment in Karnataka must register under the Shops & Commercial Establishments Act, 1961 via e-Karmika — usually within 30 days of starting. Valid 5 years.

Steps

  1. 1

    Register on e-Karmika

    Go to ekarmika.karnataka.gov.in (also reachable via Seva Sindhu) and create a login.

    Choose Shops & Establishment registration

    Under the Karnataka Shops & Commercial Establishments Act, 1961.

  3. 3

    Fill business & employee details

    Name, address, category and number of employees.

  4. 4

    Upload & pay

    Attach documents and pay the fee (based on employee count).

  5. 5

    Get the certificate

    Download the registration certificate once approved and display it at the establishment.

💡 Good to know

  • Register within ~30 days of starting. The certificate is valid 5 years — renew at least a month before expiry.
  • Often required to open a current account and to get other licences (FSSAI, trade licence).
