Yellow Fever vaccination in Bengaluru (Kenya & Africa travel)
Travelling to Kenya or other yellow-fever-risk countries? You need a Yellow Fever vaccine and the international 'Yellow Card' certificate (ICVP) — given only at government-authorized centres. In Bengaluru that's the Public Health Institute. Get it at least 10 days before you travel.
Steps
- 1
Confirm you need it
Kenya and many sub-Saharan African (and some South American) countries require proof of yellow fever vaccination. Check the destination's entry rules.
- 2
Use an AUTHORIZED centre only
The certificate (ICVP / 'Yellow Card') is valid only from a government-authorized Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre. In Bengaluru this is the Public Health Institute (Ambedkar Veedhi, near Atria Hotel). See the official MoHFW centre list to confirm.
- 3
Book your appointment
Book via the official VAIT (Vaccination Appointment for International Travellers) system, or contact the Public Health Institute directly (historically ~080-2221-0248). Slots can be limited — book early.
- 4
Get vaccinated ≥10 days before travel
The vaccine takes ~10 days to become effective and the certificate is valid from day 10. Don't leave it to the last week.
- 5
Collect your Yellow Card (ICVP)
You're issued the International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis. A single dose is now considered valid for life (the old 10-year rule was dropped) — keep the card safe with your passport.
💡 Good to know
- Only the authorized centre's certificate is accepted at immigration — don't rely on a random clinic.
- Carry the Yellow Card with your passport; some airlines/countries check it on arrival.
- Booking process and fees change — confirm on the official MoHFW list before going.
